Newsboys, like contemporaries Michael W. Smith and Third Day, have always had a strong worship component to their brand of slightly eclectic Christian pop. Given the band’s vertical focus that makes Adoration: The Worship Album a logical extension to their growing catalogue of music. As evidenced by the success of “It Is You” (from 2002′s Thrive and also featured live on this release), singer/frontman Peter Furler and gang know how to craft a melodic yet simple song of pra… More >>

  • This by far their worst CD what are they trying to do ruin their image. This is not the Newsboys we know and love. Their second worst CD has to be Love Liberty Disco. I realy like the Newsboys but this is just terrible what they’ve done. If you are trying to find a new CD that is good buy Audio Adrenaline’s new CD Worldwide.

  • The Newsboys offer up their first worship CD as a follow up to their album “Thrive” and it is quite a disappointment. This CD, while it holds to the pop music style of the Newsboys, it does not hold up to the standard of creativity or musicality set by their previous recordings. It lacks in creativity and as a worship album it fails to move, at least this listener.

“He Reigns” is the first single from the CD and its simple melody and catchy refrain had me anticipating the release of the album. As it turns out each song has basically the same rhythmic backbeat (snare on 2 and 4), and the songs have very little development, they rarely “climax” into anything very exciting. There are a couple of familiar songs thrown in the mix, “Lord (I Don’t Know)”and “It is You”, both nice songs but possibly on the CD as filler because these live versions really don’t tap into the energy of the audience like many live worship projects do, and should.

I wouldn’t recommend this CD because it is definitely the weakest effort from the beloved Newsboys, especially when compared to their last album which was excellent. The intent of a worship CD is to offer praises to God and to help a listener be drawn into worship. While the lyrics do praise God, and some listeners may actually be drawn into worship through the simplicity of the melodies and lyrics, this listener is drawn to hit the “eject” button on the player. The only reason to buy this CD would be to keep your Newsboys collection complete; otherwise, I recommend some other worship music options.

  • Every Christian artist out there seems to be hitching onto the Worship album wagon and the Newsboys apparently wanted to jump in. I bought this CD because I am a fan of the Newsboys and I enjoy the song ‘He Reigns’. However, the CD as a whole doesn’t turn out that way. This has got to be the first mediocre Newsboys album that I have heard. This album contains songs previously released whether it be a live version or a song re-strung or intertwined with a new song to sound more praiseworthy. I also feel that a few of the new songs doesn’t carry very well, whether it be due to lack of lyrical genius or instrumental arrangements.

  • With the exception of “You Are My King (Amazing Love)” and “In Christ Alone”, all of these songs were written by the Newsboys lead singer Peter Furler and Steve Taylor. You know how well they can write from previous albums. It’s nice to see producer/writer Steve Taylor back with the Newsboys.

Before I cover the songs, let me say that the lyric sheet included with the album is cool because it lists all the guitar chords above the words of most of the songs. So get out your guitar and start playing (just don’t break any copyright rules and play in church without proper permission).

The band starts off with “He Reigns”, a very catchy praise song that you have probably heard on the radio. Then it is followed by a powerful and soulful rendition of “You Are My King (Amazing Love)”. “Great Is Your Faithfullness” is not the traditional hymn you might have thought it was, instead it’s a kind of medley of a few songs put together in an entirely new form.

You’ll recognize “Take My Hands (Praises)” from the album Shine The Hits, but it’s got new words and a different mix. Follow that with “Adoration” which would make a great Christmas praise song (there’s not enough of those!). It’s sung from the perspective of someone at the stable in Bethlehem. “In Christ Alone” is a melodic catchy hymn.

Then they follow with live version of hits from the album Thrive “Lord (I Don’t Know)” and “It Is You”. “It Is You” was recorded live at the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame and is very good.

Next is another new hymn… “Father, Blessed Father”. Also a catchy tune which include the chorus from “Breathe” (album Take Me To Your Leader Now). It is very tastefully included. The album ends with “Hallelujah”, a longful thought of what it’ll be like when we’re standing in heaven singing.
