@seekHm1st> Okay folks…..let’s get rolling.
@seekHm1st> Welcome to the CCNET Server Meeting and Bible Study
@seekHm1st> Okay then, let’s open with a word of prayer and just move right into the study.
@seekHm1st> Father, we thank You for who You are.
@seekHm1st> We come before You this evening with hearts open for the changing……
@seekHm1st> and for the growing that Your knowledge and instruction bring.
@seekHm1st> We ask that You would work in our hearts and prepare them to learn what You have for us.
kbmomof7> yes, Lord God
@seekHm1st> That You would makes not "hearers only"
@seekHm1st> but "doers" of Your Word.
@seekHm1st> That You would give us the wisdom and the courage to carry it from here…out into the world that so sadly needs it.
kbmomof7> yes, Lord
@seekHm1st> We ask that You would make clear to us our callings
@seekHm1st> that just as You used Jeremiah and stood by his side, giving him strength and reassurance
@seekHm1st> that we could be much more concerned with Your will
@seekHm1st> and Your glory than the reactions of men.
@seekHm1st> We ask that the words of our mouths, and that the meditations of our hearts would be acceptable in Your sight Lord.
@seekHm1st> In Jesus’ name we ask it
@seekHm1st> Amen
Snapstur> Amen
kbmomof7> Amen
sarahw> amen
@seekHm1st> Okay…….
@seekHm1st> When we last left off it was at the very beginning of Jeremiah chapter 2
@seekHm1st> And Jeremiah, called by some the "weeping prophet" was called by God
@seekHm1st> He had been given a very hard job.
@seekHm1st> It would be to call out to a people whose hearts were hardened.
@seekHm1st> And whose nation was on the way down the tubes.
@seekHm1st> Their fate was sealed.
@seekHm1st> By that I mean that God knew how they would respond to His prophet.
@seekHm1st> Yet…….
@seekHm1st> We will see God’s heart in all of this.
@seekHm1st> God had told Jeremiah…….
@seekHm1st> 1:18 For, behold, today I have made you a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against her princes, against her priests, and to the people of the land.
@seekHm1st> 1:19 And they shall fight against you; but they shall not overcome you. For I am with you to deliver you, declares Jehovah.
@seekHm1st> God didn’t give Jeremiah a flowery account of the work he would be doing.
@seekHm1st> "Okay Jeremiah…it’s gonna be smoooooooth dude."
@seekHm1st> "You can drive a Cadillac, and live on your own tropical island on weekends."
@seekHm1st> No.
@seekHm1st> He would be against the kings, the priests, the princes and all the people.
@seekHm1st> He would be "almost" alone in this whole thing.
@seekHm1st> It was not a nice, rosy picture.
@seekHm1st> Jeremiah would not be "living his best life now"
@seekHm1st> So now God lays out……fleshes out his calling.
@seekHm1st> When the Lord called Paul (Saul then) to be an apostle……..
@seekHm1st> and brought about that very tremendous change in his life……
@seekHm1st> The Lord laid out His ministry and showed Paul all that Paul must suffer in carrying it out
@seekHm1st> And when Paul (still blinded) arrived at the city of Damascus………
@seekHm1st> and in his mind probably still VERY confused by what had just happened to him……
@seekHm1st> having been on the way to Damascus fuming…..ready to bring to fruition the threats in his heart against this new "sect"
@seekHm1st> called Christianity
@seekHm1st> he wanted to murder them
@seekHm1st> They were going against the teachings of the Pharisees
@seekHm1st> he experienced a life-changing experience
@seekHm1st> He came before the Lord.
@seekHm1st> And the Lord showed him what would happen to him.
@seekHm1st> Ananias laid hands on Paul………….
@seekHm1st> and he too had been confused and concerned
@seekHm1st> because Paul had been wreaking havoc on the church
@seekHm1st> But God told him that Paul was a chosen vessel unto Him
@seekHm1st> When God tells people to do hard things……..
@seekHm1st> almost always in the Scriptures the reaction is one of "I’m not qualified to do that"
@seekHm1st> but Paul still made that commitment
@seekHm1st> Sometimes you will hear pastors say things like………..
@seekHm1st> just become a Christian……….
@seekHm1st> And life will become easy……….
@seekHm1st> It will be nice…..
@seekHm1st> and you will just float on into heaven
@seekHm1st> Did Jesus say that?
@seekHm1st> No.
@seekHm1st> The reality is…..
@seekHm1st> He said if they didn’t receive Me they aren’t going to want to receive you.
@seekHm1st> If the persecuted Me they will persecute you too.
@seekHm1st> Because the servant is not greater than his Master
kbmomof7> amen
@seekHm1st> I don’t think we will be doing any great service to people to tell them to become a Christian because it will be easier
@seekHm1st> I think when the matter comes up we should tell them the truth
@seekHm1st> It isn’t always easy to be a Christian
@seekHm1st> It isn’t always easy to serve.
@seekHm1st> "Take up your cross and follow Me."
@seekHm1st> But…..
@seekHm1st> as the Lord said to Jeremiah……
@seekHm1st> I will put a wall around you.
@seekHm1st> I will be your defense.
@seekHm1st> Some would ask……..as we will see later…….
@seekHm1st> "But things happened to Jeremiah"
@seekHm1st> that weren’t pleasant
@seekHm1st> he went to jail
@seekHm1st> other things too
@seekHm1st> How did God protect him?
@seekHm1st> Was Jeremiah’s soul protected?
@seekHm1st> Yes.
@seekHm1st> Will we see Jeremiah in heaven, before the very throne of God one day?
@seekHm1st> I think we can say, yes!
@seekHm1st> And like Jeremiah…….
@seekHm1st> when we are faithful……
@seekHm1st> we will see the hand of God at work in our lives.
@seekHm1st> and it will be wonderful
@seekHm1st> 2:1 And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying,
@seekHm1st> 2:2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, So says Jehovah, I remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your betrothals, when you went after Me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.
@seekHm1st> Now this is the first message that Jeremiah has to deliver for God
@seekHm1st> That Israel at one time had been eager to please God
@seekHm1st> And it really is a pathetic thing
@seekHm1st> Really it is when you look at it.
@seekHm1st> It isn’t unlike Jesus calling to the church of Ephesus
@seekHm1st> "Sure…..you’ve got your rallies, you’ve got your programs going, you’ve got people crowding through the doors……
@seekHm1st> but ohhhhhhhhh I have this against you."
@seekHm1st> You have LEFT your first love.
@seekHm1st> And REMEMBER……..
@seekHm1st> from whence you’ve fallen.
@seekHm1st> When we opened up with background on the state of the people at this time……..
@seekHm1st> remember that there had been revival
@seekHm1st> but it had only been a surface thing
@seekHm1st> a cultural thing
@seekHm1st> not………
@seekHm1st> a heart thing.
@seekHm1st> God is calling those in Israel through Jeremiah to do the very same thing here.
@seekHm1st> To remember their first love.
@seekHm1st> For Him.
@seekHm1st> He remembered their praises of Him.
@seekHm1st> Their love of Him.
@seekHm1st> That they had written love songs to Him.
@seekHm1st> And He was recalling it to them now.
@seekHm1st> They had been dedicated to Him.
@seekHm1st> Name it God, and we will do it.
@seekHm1st> Israel was holiness unto the Lord.
@seekHm1st> 2:3 Israel was holiness to Jehovah, and the firstfruits of His increase. All that devour him shall offend; evil shall come on them, says Jehovah.
@seekHm1st> 2:4 Hear the Word of Jehovah, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel.
@seekHm1st> 2:5 So says Jehovah, What injustice have your fathers found in Me, that they have gone far from Me and have walked after vanity, and have become vain?
@seekHm1st> 2:6 Nor did they say, Where is Jehovah who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of dry places, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man lived?
@seekHm1st> 2:7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled My land and made My inheritance an abomination.
@seekHm1st> 2:8 The priests did not say, Where is Jehovah? And they who handle the Law did not know Me; the shepherds also rebelled against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things not profitable.
@seekHm1st> Now……
@seekHm1st> when the priests become corrupted……..
@seekHm1st> then what can you expect?
@seekHm1st> There are so many guys behind the pulpit today…………
@seekHm1st> I hate to say this………..
@seekHm1st> but they are so liberal in their thinking………
@seekHm1st> that they really don’t even qualify………
PrayerSoldier> amen
@seekHm1st> or meet the criteria for what a Christian is.
@seekHm1st> That’s harsh.
@seekHm1st> I know.
@seekHm1st> But it’s so true.
@seekHm1st> They have throngs of people in their churches
@seekHm1st> But what they are preaching is no longer even the gospel
@seekHm1st> It isn’t the blood of Christ that redeems people from their sin
@seekHm1st> according to these men
PrayerSoldier> amen and they will so be judged by it
@seekHm1st> and women
@seekHm1st> I agree Donna
@seekHm1st> And I hope they change
@seekHm1st> They give rosey speeches
@seekHm1st> They speak in platitudes
PrayerSoldier> as my pastor said last night " compromise " has taken place
@seekHm1st> "It’s so nice to be nice"
@seekHm1st> "So go out and be nice this week."
@seekHm1st> Does that save anyone?
@seekHm1st> Does that fulfill the gospel?
@seekHm1st> Does that communicate the gospel.
@seekHm1st> Don’t get me wrong
@seekHm1st> I’m not advocating NOT being nice
@seekHm1st> Because we want people to see the love of Jesus in who we are
@seekHm1st> But they need to hear the story
@seekHm1st> They need to hear the gospel
PrayerSoldier> sometimes love hurts though
@seekHm1st> And WE need to be present and willing to tell the TRUTH
@seekHm1st> about who God is
@seekHm1st> And why He sent His Son
@seekHm1st> and we need to be unashamed
@seekHm1st> and unafraid
@seekHm1st> Born again means something
@seekHm1st> it is thrown around as a general term these days
@seekHm1st> It’s even used to sell things
@seekHm1st> "Your hair can be born again"
@seekHm1st> buy our shampoo
@seekHm1st> lol
@seekHm1st> I shouldn’t laugh, because when I really think about it I get steamed.
PrayerSoldier> Laugh Out Loud
@seekHm1st> It is a thrill to be able to share Jesus and His truth with people
@seekHm1st> and it is a privilege
@seekHm1st> Yet………
@seekHm1st> sometimes we get an opportunity……..
@seekHm1st> and we get butterflies in the stomach
@seekHm1st> Think about what Jeremiah must have had rumbling in his tummy
@seekHm1st> He was speaking to a whole nation
@seekHm1st> and it was guaranteed to him by Almighty God that they would not receive him
@seekHm1st> 2:9 Therefore I will contend with you, says Jehovah, and with your son’s sons I will enter into judgment.
@seekHm1st> 2:10 For pass over the coasts of Kittim, and see; and send to Kedar, and carefully consider, and see if there is such a thing.
@seekHm1st> 2:11 Has a nation changed their gods who are yet no gods? But My people have changed their Glory for that which does not profit.
@seekHm1st> What God is talking about here…….is people changing their false god systems
@seekHm1st> People in false systems just don’t DO that
@seekHm1st> There whole religion is so deeply wrapped up in their cultural aspects
@seekHm1st> that people just don’t CHANGE their gods……
@seekHm1st> even those who worship false gods
@seekHm1st> Realize now that I am speaking generally.
@seekHm1st> 2:11 Has a nation changed their gods who are yet no gods? But My people have changed their Glory for that which does not profit.
@seekHm1st> 12 Be amazed, O heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid; be completely desolated, says Jehovah.
@seekHm1st> Be amazed O heavens………..
@seekHm1st> You wonder…..were the angels like……..
@seekHm1st> slapping their foreheads?
@seekHm1st> lol
PrayerSoldier>
@seekHm1st> I mean…..do you ever wonder if they do that with some of the disastrous mistakes WE make?
PrayerSoldier> yeah like … what are they doing ?
@seekHm1st> The things that we are going to fall headlong into because of our own folly?
@seekHm1st> 2:13 For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, to hew out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.
@seekHm1st> They had forsaken God……..the very FOUNTAIN of living water
@seekHm1st> There are so many times when water is used as a symbol of life because water is so essential to survival
@seekHm1st> for life
@seekHm1st> And the Lord so often uses the physical as an example of the spiritual
@seekHm1st> and……..
@seekHm1st> I guess we will have to leave it there this time.
@seekHm1st> lol
@seekHm1st> And we’ll pick it up again next time
@seekHm1st> Let’s pray and I’ll get ya outta here
@seekHm1st>
@seekHm1st> Father,
@seekHm1st> Your Son told us that if any man thirsts………..
@seekHm1st> that we should come to Him and to drink freely of Him and that He would well up living water within us
@seekHm1st> That He is the living water for us
@seekHm1st> that we would never "thirst" again
PrayerSoldier> yes Lord
@seekHm1st> We are so thankful for that Father.
@seekHm1st> We thank You that this is given to us
<kbmomof7> yes, thank You Father
@seekHm1st> because there is no one in this room who deserves it.
@seekHm1st> Yet….
@seekHm1st> In the same way that You were gracious to even the people of Jeremiah’s day
@seekHm1st> offering them Your grace in the face of their sin…..
@seekHm1st> calling them to come back to You………..
@seekHm1st> because You are that generous
@seekHm1st> that giving
@seekHm1st> We don’t want any broken cistern Father
@seekHm1st> We want You
@seekHm1st> Because only You are worthy
@seekHm1st> Worth of praise
@seekHm1st> We thank You for loving us
PrayerSoldier> yes Lord we want you only you are worthy
@seekHm1st> And we praise the name of Your holy Son in whose name we pray
@seekHm1st> Amen
PrayerSoldier> amen
napstur> Amen

@seekHm1st> for life
@seekHm1st> And the Lord so often uses the physical as an example of the spiritual
@seekHm1st> and……..
@seekHm1st> I guess we will have to leave it there this time.
@seekHm1st> lol
@seekHm1st> And we’ll pick it up again next time
@seekHm1st> Let’s pray and I’ll get ya outta here
@seekHm1st>
@seekHm1st> Father,
@seekHm1st> Your Son told us that if any man thirsts………..
@seekHm1st> Yet….
@seekHm1st> In the same way that You were gracious to even the people of Jeremiah’s day
@seekHm1st> offering them Your grace in the face of their sin…..
@seekHm1st> calling them to come back to You………..
@seekHm1st> because You are that generous
@seekHm1st> that giving
@seekHm1st> We don’t want any broken cistern Father
@seekHm1st> We want You
@seekHm1st> Because only You are worthy
@seekHm1st> Worth of praise
@seekHm1st> We thank You for loving us
PrayerSoldier> yes Lord we want you only you are worthy
@seekHm1st> And we praise the name of Your holy Son in whose name we pray
@seekHm1st> Amen
PrayerSoldier> amen
napstur> Amen
