Last month, the WWE inducted Ted DiBiase (also known as “The Million Dollar Man”) into their Hall of Fame.

(Yes — I’ve been known to watch a wrestling match or two in my time.)

With his flashy clothes, stretch limos and outrageous lifestyle, he always reminded folks that “everybody’s got a price.”

Just watch his entrance video to see what I mean…

Throughout his career with the WWE, DiBiase always looked for ways to demonstrate the power of his money.

In one vignette he bribed the manager of a local swimming pool to close for the day so he could have the pool to himself.

He would also get the WWE fans to perform various humiliating things, such as kissing his feet for money, doing push-ups and barking like a dog.

During his Hall of Fame induction, DiBiase said that he really lucked out with the Million Dollar Man gimmick.

From the beginning of his WWE run, the company deliberately booked first-class airline tickets for him, gave him five-star hotel accommodations and gave him plenty of spending cash to maintain the Million Dollar Man persona. (All the while, other wrestlers were forced to carpool from show to show and stay in cheaper hotels.)

The gimmick was pure genius in terms of wrestling.

And like much of professional wrestling, the spectacle of excess and the over the top stereotypes of a Million Dollar Man causes us to take a deeper look at ourselves and the culture around us.

“Everybody’s got a price.”

Which raises a few questions…

What do you value most?

  • Your home?
  • Your car?
  • Your HDTV?
  • Your job?
  • Your spouse & kids?
  • Your name?
  • Your character?
  • Your pride?

What’s your price? At what cost will you give/throw away those things most valuable to you?

Or on the flip side…

How much will you give up/throw away to keep those things that are most valuable to you?

“Everybody’s got a price.”

What’s yours?
