Fourth (of five) part of the 2008 Channel-4 documentary ‘God Strikes Back’. The documentary is part of the series ‘The Genius of Darwin’. In this final episode Dawkins examines why Darwin’s theory remains one of the most controversial ideas in history. Highlights of this episode include a science teacher who believes the world is less than 10000 years old, the Archbishop of Canterbury being made to look like an intellectual cretin, and an insight into the hate mail which Professor Dawkins receives from ‘good christian folk’ for his outspoken support of science over mumbo-jumbo. As Darwin set out on the voyage on the Beagle he still believed that god created the world and everything in it. But the evidence he discovered – fossils, patterns of anatomical resemblance, startling similarities of embryos and domestic breeding – demonstrated the truth: that all life forms vary and that some are more likely to reproduce, passing variations on.

That priest has the most wonderful voice. Wish it were speaking fact however
The creationists only argument is; its complex there for has to have a creator.
I love their logic. Some times i love it so much i cry.
I wonder if Dawkins would be so blissfully enchanted with nature and evolution if he wound up on the wrong end of it. That goes for anybody I guess. Personally. I accept it as the how but not the why, since there is so much more to be known about the universe.
@DeJay17Revolution
I know I know, reading history books is hard for you, but it’s okay… It’s okay…
@DeJay17Revolution the only thing he would be rolling in his grave. is all the uneducated religous nuts fighting and railing against his theroy
@sarotran There is no evidence for hell you only know of the concept because people told you about it god didnt tell you this.
life is merely multiple overlaying tiers of very well coordinated complexity, and our only true functions are to gather energy and replicate.
Great channel, great documentary, but I don’t know why the use censorship here. The “DeJay17Revolution” post wasn’t even offensive. He is supposing something from Darwin and the only way this people “strike back” is by “supposing” this or that, like “I hope you go to hell!”… Isn’t ironic? Not just gross but contradictory the they own self-righteous values of love and compassion… You can barely find a pro-religious video WITH comments enabled! Let them show their weekness…
@sarotran your a dumb ass you need threats of hell to be good i feel sorry for you
DAMN! He actually got to talk to the Archbishop of Canterbury! I didn’t expect that haha.
Dawkins is sounding like he thinks moderate Christians are worse than fundamentalists. I wish all Christians thought evolution was simply planned out by God. That would keep Creation out of the science classrooms.
@DeJay17Revolution hes broadcasted evolution not atheism
@imrich6 Unfortunately, none of those guys wants to debate anyone- especially Dawkins, Hitchens, or Dennett. It’s a pity, because I would really enjoy seeing that.
I love Dawkins and Williams, but I found the “interview” rather pointless. You have Dawkins, a passionate scientist, trying to interview Williams, a gifted literary scholar and an emotional/spiritual thinker, by asking rational and straightforward questions, only to get a poetic answer in return. I’d be more intrigued watching Dawkins interview a religious scientist – Collins, Peacocke, Miller, or Stannard.
@followjesusonly1 “God has intervened in the condemnation of this world by sending Jesus Christ to die the death penalty that was passed on all men when they were separated from His life by believing what satan told them.”
Did god infact do that? Or does someone claim that god did that in a non scientific text? If i where to tell you, that god told me, to kill you, would you gladly accept that on the basis that I, or anyone (bible included) tell you it’s true?
He is a an atheist and will burn in hell !!
God has intervened in the condemnation of this world by sending Jesus Christ to die the death penalty that was passed on all men when they were separated from His life by believing what satan told them. The evils we see in nature are because we are in a world under the rule of death. Because God sent us Jesus, we can pass over from this death to life everlasting, and at the time God has chosen He will destroy this death also. It is all written in the Bible if you choose to study it.
True. I think religion does offer consulance, and a dream of eternal life. Although clearly absurd and wrong.
sorry to tell you, prayer is all inside your head.
If you think Ganesh, the elephant-headed, 6 armed god of the hindu religion doesn’t really exist, than 1.2 BILLION (yes billion, not million) people are deluded.
Yet, they FEEL the presense of Ganesh. They pray to him. I have seen it first hand. You’d think now we know that this delusion is a fact we’d question our own religion and belief. But I understand people are so weak or subjectated to their traditions they are powerless to think.
so glad you posted this!
thank you~
Religion = Pleasant Delusions
@DeJay17Revolution fact is he did NOT…thats an made up legend and has nothing to do with the truth theres no evidence he ever did…it became an pretty famous legend in the past but its simply not true sorry the ony thing we can say is…after his dead returned to a church as he was burried next to westmisnter abbey
@Oliper666 he also denounced his theory on the death bed oh yeahhhh forgot about that one
lol Im so gonna get flagged or responded to im in the lions den lol
@DeJay17Revolution If youd know about Darwin youd knew he lost his faith when he got his evidence the bible is wrong
Dawkins’s last words about elegance – indeed this is the true beauty of the nature, understanding of it’s origins and presence in a vast variety of forms and colours. Those transcendental entities positively do not explain anything in the nature, while evolution opens your mind.
