Fantastically written and beautifully directed, the series constitutes a thorough and accurate reconstruction of Beethoven’s life, from his troubled childhood to his death at the age of 56. Paul Rhys’s masterful portrayal of Beethoven is particularly noteworthy, doing well to convey in vivid colour the natural genius of the Great Man and the isolation, turmoil and despair he experienced throughout his eventful life. Insightful narration from the popular conductor, composer and presenter Charles Hazlewood does well to add a sophisticated educational dimension to the series, as well as to encourage a seamless and comfortable flow of the story. This is an absolute must-watch! Director: Ursula Macfarlane Cast: Paul …

@Moon0Royalty Of course they’re simple minded, like may people are today…
i’m picturing a history-making moment of Beethoven throwing a public tantrum at Haydn in front of all the biggest players in Vienna. is it justified because he would go on to prove them all wrong?
@hillarychapman1 Me too. He does a fantastic job at throwing little fits and tantrums.
Hydn was so true!! Just look what’s on the billboard or any so called “music” chart like that. Lady Gaga, Eminem Featuring Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, The Black Eyed Peas???!!! The masses starves for MC Donnald ?
You are an artist who wants to make a living with novelties?? You better get used to that kraft dinner and peanut butter, because the mainstream dumbling down machine is here to stay!
love the actor who is Beethoven whoever he is..
What is the music playing in the background when Beethoven meets Haydn? I’m assuming it is Haydn, it’s really nice.
Too complex? The public hasn’t caught up with him yet? The audience seems too simple minded to appreciate Beethoven’s talent. How he would prosper surrounded by those of his own intellect! But I suppose that is merely my own opinion.
This is not to say the indavidual musicians have no skill, i’m just saying, solely in my opinion,as a musician,I cannot relate to most metal music,or most of the music that is beeing put out today. To me,there is no effort at all in todays music, and u can call a different form, but to me it’s literal abuse to this art form just to make money off of. This is not to say Beethoven, Mozart ect. Didnt make money of there music. Though I think they made music based on there need to express themselves
I Find it very hard to appreciate MOST metal music (exculding old school metal such as, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabath) ’cause in fact of there lack of the ability to come up with original material. Beethoven’s late string quartets are perfection and yes some movements are very aggressive, but this is work of a pure genuis. Who opened new doors to this beautiful art form, and influencing many 19th century composers.
Continued…
Your Ignorance makes me laugh, , Trust Me I know my Metal As Well as My Classical, Metal Music is probably very loud and Aggressive , but Beethoven’s Last String Quartets were also Aggressive and many people Criticized them and called it “Trash” as you are my Friend, those string Quartets are way ahead of their time even today, The Beauty of Music that makes it the Highest Most Precious Gift of god and form of all arts is that it comes in endless forms, and only few can appreciate that.
5:44 is the fourth movement.
Bullshits are huge i saw them once! They are like the size of a persons head!
in 5:44 Piano Trio in C minor.. What movement is this?
its ok if my race wont be here in 120yrs i say apply the SCORCHED EARTH POLICIES to everything mostly that demanding stove called nature..
‘Screaming Bullshit’
Cool name for a band *chuckles
obviously you are very ignorant and very wrong
F minor sonata is pure perfection.
Metal music is fucking trash!!! If you truly listen to it it all it has over and over and over is the D droped and finger sweeping. Thats is. with some screaming bullshit. The works of beethoven and mozart far surpass modern music today by a universe and beyond.
@chantellesasha
hey, if you’re still wanting to know, it’s from the first movement of his Piano Trio No. 2 in G Major
Metal is about violence, about destruction, – possibly to give way to something better, – but nontheless…..
It doesn´t use too refined musical means, but the raw expression.
Beethoven is about conflict and resulotion, dealism and healing.
He was always refining, finding new ways, exploring structure, pushing limits (not kicking them down).
Today he would probably be absorbed by computermusic because of the infinite possibilities, – maybe even frustrated because of the lack of limits.
maybe at first but he would soon understand how complex metal music is….some of the most awsome metal bands….all types of music have shit musicians in them
i think he would say that’s noise
not music ^^
beetoven would like metal music
Try “The genious of Mozart” episode 18, 4:30 (his death-scene) and you will hear the strangest opening of a quartett, – thin, squeeky dissonances betveen two violins. Not very typical in his days.
For the same reason, Mozart avoided writing many minor-key based, romantic, dark symphonies, concertos, like No.20 in D minor, No.24 in C minor. He had to consider the public wanted from him.
