While we all have unique ways in which we tend to show our love to others (our love language), that love may not always be appreciated or understood clearly if we’re not taking the time to understand how others best receive love.

For instance, if My Life prefers I spend quality time with her and I’m constantly buying her gifts she may easily get annoyed with the “pointless trinkets” and wondering why I never take time to show her love.

It’s very common for a person to show love in the same way they like to receive it. For example, a person whose love language is touch, will often touch your arm while speaking to you. Someone who prefers being encouraged, will often be found encouraging those around them.

So make an extra effort today to figure out the love languages of those around you and learn how to best personalize your love towards them based on their interests and your own personality.

Quality time
Go on a walk together
Play a board game
Share a picnic lunch together
Go on a hike together
Visit a local museum together
Take your son or daughter on a “date”

Give them a giant hug – repeat ever hour of the day

Write an encouraging note and stick it in their lunch box
Remind them how beautiful/handsome they are – repeat an hour later
Tell them they’ve done a good job

Speak value into their lives
Leave notes in their room for them
Remind them daily how much you love them

Bring home roses or their favorite flowers for no reason at all
Buy their favorite candy bar for them when grocery shopping
Buy something to help with their favorite hobby
Pick up their favorite drink or snack on your way home
Buy them a random gift “just because”
Create “special holidays” as excuses to give gifts
Create something handmade as a gift
