One of the major wisdoms the apostle recieved in his revelation of the indwelling Christ is identity. Pauls understanding of who he once was and who he is now, was day and night. Can you image being the only one in the world at the time of his revelation to know that God was going to birth his own children and then having to explain that to the most religious group of people in the world at that time, Israel, a very forboding task to say the least. Paul in this new wisdom he recieved handled it quite well, 2nd Cor 2:6-7, his understanding of identity now defined who he was, Gal 2:20. Paul knew no one knew anything about their previous life in nature and surly knew nothing about their new life in Christ, because he knew nothing about it until it was revealed to him, no man knew, Romans 16:25, it had been kept secret in the mystery of God until now. Paul understood to bring this kind of a message brought devistation to the old mind set, 2nd Cor 2:3-4. Pauls gospel seperates a believer from who they think they are, that is devistating to think this is who i am and this is how i operate and Pauls fear and trembling is he knew how sensitive the soul is. It bruise’s easy, it gets upset, it falls away from conflick and takes time to filter through strong meat and devine wisdom.
Nevertheless Paul was not moved away from the prize of his high calling in Christ to be faithful to the gospel he had recieved. He never devieated away from the truth of who he was now, he never one time would mix one iota of law with the full understanding of Christ in you and full grace, you can seach all of Pauls epistles and never find a word of law mixed in with his gospel. He gave admonitions and rebukes some very strong at times but he never let the law that once defined him creep back in.
To be seperated from who you think you are is a work of the Holy Spirit, he is the teacher and he alone can teach you Christ, which is your new identity. Paul gives us the most powerful view into the old man in, Romans 7, where he speaks to us from the stand point of being in Adam, he shows us what the sin nature had in it and how it operated. Ill say that again when he is talking in,Romans 7;8-23, he is speaking as if it were Adam speaking to us. The sin taking occasion by the commandment is the commanment not to partake of the tree of good and evil.
Verse 9 says he was alive without the law once, Paul was never alive without the law, only Adam had ever lived without the law. So we have a beautiful picture of the sin natrue spelled out perfectly for all to see. Why do we need to see the sin nature, one reason is it will help you understand your new nature, you can see you never had a life if your own, it was sin in you that caused you your trouble, it was that sin that seperated you from God and it us still that old mind set that still trys to seperate you from God your Father. He has done everything to redeem you, but the old mind is bound by the old knowledge of good and evil. We have it plainly writen to us and over look the depth of Paul and his revelation of who we are now. All of Gods word is inspired by holy men of old, but there is a very particular message writen to the born again and with out that revelation you will never find your identity that is given to you in the writen scriptures. The Father has done all he is going to do, he gave his Son, he has inspired his word to us, given us the Holy Spirit to be our teacher, the only thing he will do now us show you who you are and you grow in that grace and understanding of Christ as your life and identity. Havent you noticed yet all of our sulking and pouting had no effect on our Father at all, he has fixed this gospel from the foundation of the world and my begging and pleading with him does very little to move him and usually goes unheard, why because he wants you to know who you are, we have Christ in us. There are times when we need a miracle to keep us going that is not what i am talking about, i am about a group of people that need to hear the gospel and grow up in him.
