The Strait Gate

February 25th, 2011 by admin

I have to give the backdrop of how God set me up to receive the understanding He gave by the Holy Ghost concerning Matthew 7:13-14.

I truly believe and strive to walk in the commandment our Lord gave in Matthew 10:27.

Turn to Matthew 16:18. "….and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it". God made me to understand this scripture in the right context while at bible study last week. My perception was wrong. I was looking at it backwards. Threw my theology off in my ignorance. I thought I knew what that meant. I thought it meant that if the kingdom of darkness came against me, that it would not prevail. I used Revelation as my help in that, though Satan would have power to destroy and scatter us, in the end the victory would be ours. Sounds good, right? Well, I had completely misunderstood Matthew.

It doesn’t say ‘though the gates of hell come against us’. It says that the gates of hell won’t be able to withstand when we come against it! When I heard that, I received power and life! Amen.

So, back in Matthew 7:13-14. We come across another gate-the Strait Gate. When I came to the verse, I was immediately taken back to what I had just learned previously. I wanted to be careful how I understood about this gate as well. And behold! He fixed my understanding yet again. He showed me that my perception was off and I was looking at it backwards like I did before. It’s not that the narrow way leads to the strait gate like I thought. No, but the entrance to the narrow way is through the strait gate. After entering in through the gate, the narrow way leads to life. Picture Mt. Zion as being "life". You are on the path leading to the top of Mt. Zion. Look up the word for strait in the Greek. It means ‘obstacles in the way’ pretty much. After understanding that, my mind went to Acts 14:22 and that became my witness that the Holy Ghost had spoken to me. A practical way of looking at it is, no one says they’re "on the straight and narrow" before receiving Christ. It’s always after. And Jesus is the Strait Gate and it is He who takes you up that path that leads to eternal life. Amen!
