Now sometimes they are just saying that it is good to do these things to be close to God.. but other times they are actually saving they are legally bound to serve God otherwise He will condemn them.
So I thought it would be good to emphasise the difference between eternal salvation and daily service:
Eternal salvation.. is a once off act on the part of God to deliver us from all sin past, present and future. It happens instantly the moment someone is genuine about responding to Jesus drawing them to Him.
John 3:16 Romans chapter 10 John 5:24 John 10:28-29 Ephesians 2:8-9 all support this among alot of other verses.
Now daily service… is continuous obedience to Jesus. But why? Because I HAVE to? No.. because I want to.. out of LOVE for what He has done by delivering me eternally, permanently.
A saved person.. MAY do good works… if they continue in daily service.. but are not guaranteed to do them just because they are eternally saved.
So daily service– this is where James comes in with ‘faith without works is dead’.. what James is saying.. is daily service is by serving God.. the system of faith.. is through Jesus.. and without actually going to aid someone by Jesus’ empowerment.. someone won’t be using that faith.. it will be lifeless.. dead in teh sense of DORMANT.
Not dead in the sense of lost salvation.
This is also where Romans and Galatians come in with talking about serving God in the newness of the Spirit and not the oldness of the law. Admonishing people to continue in the church/faith system.. rather than returning to following Old Testament covenant.
But the thing with eternal salvation and daily service.. they are not tied to eachother.
A person who is eternally saved doesn’t HAVE to continue in obedience to Jesus.. they would WANT to because of what He has done for them.
This is the whole motivation to serve God.. because you are FREE.. not because you are still bound by commandments that if you don continue in God will send you to hell!
People attack eternal security and assurance of salvation as if they are unbiblical doctrines..
These doctrines are the very bedrock of Christianity! They are fundamental to real christianity.
You don’t HAVE to believe them after being saved.. but being assured of salvation.. and secure in your salvation.. leads to peace.. kindness… gentleness..self-control.. etc..
The other thing.. I am not talking about Calvinism here. Eternal security is just plain biblical.. and assurance of salvation.. they aren’t doctrines that John Calvin invented.
I’m also not talking Arminianism here..
Eternal salvation is a once of act.. someone being saved by grace thru faith in Jesus.
Daily service… is something that is independent of this.. and is used for the system of faith.. for intimacy and closeness with Jesus.
