The real question we have to ask ourselves, is what is our relationship with Jesus like. It is about loving God with all your heart. Yesterday afternoon, I called a friend of mine because I was bored and lonely. We started reading devotionals to each other, when we came across a story about a lady who was really worried about some things, so she swam laps in her pool. She swam 26 laps (one for each letter of the alphabet) and for each letter she simply prayed praises to God. She would pray: Awesome, Almight, Amazing, Above-all, til the next lap and start Benevolent, Bewildering, Best, Beautiful, etc. At the end of the 26 laps she realized that God had renewed her. She didn’t feel any of those worries and in fact she had energy for 26 more laps. Hearing this story we sat on the phone for almost 2 hours thinking of words to describe God.

At the end of this conversation, we felt closer to eachother as Christians. We felt closer to God. We felt the amazing peace of God. That night, other friends I haven’t heard from in a while started calling me and the attack of loneliness that Satan had for me was utterly vanquished by focusing on, and loving God. It seems to have overflowed into today as well. Just going about my daily errands today, I ran into more people that I knew that I usuaully do. Strangers on the street asked me questions that I could help them with. After praising God, it seems I have become more a part of His plan.

As Christians we should know that God works out the tiniest details of our lives. He works out the tiny details of the lives of others too. How many times have you gotten lost going somewhere new and somebody genuinely nice and helpful directs you back to your path. GOD DID THAT. So it is such an amazing blessing for me to even be asked by a stranger on the street when the next bus is coming. If I can help ANYBODY with ANYTHING, I have glorified God. It is such a blessing to know that God has put me in the path of His other children to bless them and love them just like He loves me.

My friends, this is what Christianity looks like. Not how nice of shirt you wear on Sunday. Not how much you dropped in the collection plate. It is about your relationship with the world, and His children (John 13:34-35 NKJV). Jesus told us that HIS DISCIPLES WOULD BE KNOWN BY THEIR LOVE FOR THE WORLD!!

What does this love look like? I thank God that the Bible talks a lot about what His love looks like.

People say over and over again how rough today’s teenagers have it, how hard they have to work, how much more pressure is being placed on them to succeed, etc., etc. Today’s Christian teen faces all that and more every time they walk out the door, because not only do they have to struggle to prove their identity and stand up to society’s pressures they also have to stand up as a Christian and withstand the pressures of living in the world-drugs, sex, alcohol and the discouragement of the government to allow God into our schools.

As if they could ever keep him out.

We would all like to think we would willingly put our social status on the line for Christ if he asked us to, but the simple truth of the matter is that he does ask-and it is our teens that have to answer. Every single day. Their willingness to show their faith could have a profound effect on their reputation in high school, their ability to make (and keep) friends and how far open the doors of popularity are to them. Walking through the halls preaching the gospel not only could get them expelled, it could get them expunged from high school society.

The question is, how can teens express their faith without having to risk being kicked out of the very institution where people expect them to take a deep breath and fit in? First and foremost, what about Christian clothing? God may not be allowed in our schools, but most schools have not outlawed the wearing of Christian t-shirts, Christian hats and Christian shoes inside these hallowed halls of learning.

Christian jewelry? A cross necklace serves as a great reminder that the Lord is always with us when we are out in the world, looks great with most outfits, beautifully complements Christian clothing and effectively displays our faith in a quiet, steadfast manner that seems to tell the world, “Bring it on.” If it can dish it out, they can take it!

The type of music teens listen to can have a profound effect on their relationship with Christ-and when that is all they have got playing in their cars their friends really have no choice but to listen! If you do not want to spend a small fortune on a collection of worship music and Christian rock you can visit a music retailer online and download a collection of favorites for a fraction of what the CDs would cost.

What about Christian e-books and books? Since this country has not yet spread out into actively censoring what we read on our lunch hour or what books we trade with others in the halls, Christian book selections are a great way for teens to share their faith at school-and with series like Danny Orlis and writers like Janette Oke today’s collections of Christian books are anything but boring!

It can be hard for Christian teens to find their place in today’s society. If you are the parent of a teenager struggling with how to find God in their local high school, remember-their place is not in today’s society. It is no wonder they do not fit in! Their place is in heaven at Christs’ side, and if they continue to witness they will be there before they know it. And in the meantime, they can learn to enjoy the journey.

Christian MBA Program Helps Students Keep Faith in Their Careers

In an increasingly competitive business world, MBA degree holders have a distinct advantage. Men and women are seeking these advanced business degrees in hopes of advancing in their careers or gaining a bit of job security. Now, earning an MBA is easier than ever. Many programs offer night, weekend, and online courses in order to cater to students who hold down full time jobs while attending graduate school.

However, many MBA students consider more than a flexible schedule when choosing a program. For many Christian students, it is important that the MBA program be solidly grounded in their faith. This is particularly important when moral distinctions about business ethics come into play. Many Christian students simply feel more comfortable attending a program that is grounded in the Word of God.

Fortunately, students have plenty of options when it comes to Christ-centered MBA programs. Christian universities across the country, such as Liberty University, offer quality MBA programs. And now many Christian universities are presenting their MBA programs in a distance learning format via online courses. Online Christian MBA programs are offered by universities such as Liberty University and Colorado Christian University. These Christian MBA programs vary in their emphases, offering specializations in everything from Project Management to Information Security.

Students obtaining an MBA from a Christian University gain the gift of emerging from graduate school with their faith in tact. In the cutthroat world of business, a shared worldview between professor and student can make all the difference. Students are less likely to find themselves in ethical debates with their professors, and MBA students gain valuable insight by listening to the perspective of Christian professors, who know all-too-well the perils of living out one’s faith in the business world.

In fact, many students plan to make the business world their mission field. The field of business offers much opportunity for international travel and interaction with people of all faiths and offers the ability to form long-term relationships with clients and co-workers. Through this relationship building, many Christian business men and women hope to serve as beacons of light for their peers.

Of course, the Christian business man or woman faces an uphill climb. The decidedly secular world of business does not make it easy to live out the Great Commission. Men and women must have a firm foundation in their faith as well as excellent business sense, as they are unlikely to gain the respect of their peers if they exhibit mediocre performance in the workplace.

So, it is advantageous for the Christian business man or woman to pursue an MBA at a Christian University. By taking this path, the student strengthens his or her faith while gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the workplace. He or she emerges from the MBA program both intellectually and spiritually strengthened. Excellence in academics produces excellence in job performance, opening doors for the graduate to share the love of Christ with his or her colleagues.

What is the Christian Faith

This is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. This is the fuel of a Christian’s life. Through faith, we have all the desires of our hearts. God is able to accomplish his will in us and fulfill his promises through this divine gift.

Faith goes hand in hand with patience. When God promises something in your life, most often than not, it does not come to pass immediately. We all want God to come through for us now but that is not how he works. If his perfect will must be done in our lives, we need to have patience. This is sometimes hard when you are going through tough times, but its reward is great.

In Heb 10:35-39, the Bible says that the just shall live by faith. Has God promised you something? Have faith that he is faithful to accomplish it. Do you need a move of God in your life, believe that there is nothing impossible with him. Sometimes, this may be very tough. Things might be going contrary to what you believe God is, but this does not mean you give up. He shall have no pleasure in anyone who gives up .

Faith gives you an insight to the future glory. It makes you be totally dependent upon God. It also builds a strong Christian character. When you totally believe in God, there is nothing that can shake you. You know that he will come and deliver you from all of your suffering in the end.

Christian Faith, Logic and Reason: Why Christians Should Embrace all Three

Can a Christian embrace logic? As a Christian Philosopher I think so; however, recently a fellow Christian wrote the following to me regarding something I had written on my blog,

“Logic and reason are secular, even humanistic processes. Faith is neither of those. Logic and faith can be in conflict, I think. From a humanist viewpoint there is nothing particularly logical about believing in an invisible God.”

This sort of statement is very common amongst evangelical Christians and it warrants some treatment. Essentially the writer makes three claims:

1) Logic and reason are secular, humanistic processes.

2) Faith can be in conflict with logic.

3) There is nothing logical about belief in an invisible God if you are a humanist.

Starting with 3). Even if it is true that from a humanist view point there is nothing logical about believing in an invisible God it does not follow that in fact there is nothing logical about believing in an invisible God. This latter claim follows only if a humanist perspective is true.

Now most Christians do not believe the humanist perspective is correct, and neither do I, so it is hard to see what the relevance of this is supposed to be. The fact that a perspective the writer and I think is mistaken has a particular view does not provide either of us for a reason for affirming the view.

Further, the claim that it is “illogical” to believe in an “invisible” God is simply false. The writer, here, seems to be speaking of the confusion that some Humanists espouse between the question of whether something is logical with whether something is visible. These are quite different matters. Affirming the existence of something is logical if the proposition is logically possible; that is, it does not entail a contradiction.

However, there are many things that although logically possible, are not visible. In fact, there are many things that though logically possible are in fact false. Possibility after all is not actuality. A couple of examples may help illustrate this point. The claim that there exists promiscuous virgins, or married bachelors is illogical. This is because a person is promiscuous only if he or she has sex and a person is a virgin if they have not had sex. Similarly, a person is a bachelor if they are unmarried and can only be married if they are not unmarried. Hence, the claim that promiscuous virgins or married bachelors exist entails that a person both is and is not married and has and has not had sex. This is a contradiction and so violates a fundamental rule of logic.

The claim that there is a field of red grass in my back yard on the other hand is false yet not illogical. There is nothing illogical about the concept of a red field of grass in my back yard; if I painted the grass in my yard this possibility would be actual, however, as a matter of fact the grass in my yard is green, but that is not because of any impossibility of it occurring.

So the fact that God is invisible does not mean it is illogical. If one accepts that the only source of basic knowledge about the world is our five senses, one could argue that belief in an invisible God is unwarranted but this is different from saying it is illogical. I don’t think that the five senses are our only source of basic knowledge about the world (in fact I am inclined to think it is an incoherent claim, after all the claim “the only source of basic knowledge is our five senses” is itself something one can’t prove by hearing, touching, tasting or smelling and hence if this claim were true one could not be warranted in believing it).

Turning now to 1); that logic is a secular or humanistic process. This is mistaken. Logic is simply a set of rules, most of which are intuitively obvious to properly functioning cognisers, by which one can infer conclusions from premises. Note this last point, logic simply gets one proposition, the conclusion, from other propositions, the premises.

It, in and of itself, tells us nothing about what those premises are except that they cannot be premises from which one can infer a contradiction. The premises could be drawn from information gleaned from the five senses, or they could be drawn from revelation, or from memory or some other basic source of information. Nothing about logic rules out having premises that a person believes on the basis of faith. If faith is a basic source of information about God and the world then one can, and should, use logic to draw conclusions from premises obtained via this source.

Perhaps the writer thinks that logic is an unreliable method of inferring conclusions from premises. Christianity is true (and the writer holds this) yet he thinks that logic and the Christian faith conflict. That seems to suggest that logic cannot be reliable.

I think this position is problematic; for starters the writer was, after all, writing to me. I had affirmed something and he was attempting to defend the negation of this affirmation. But if logic is unreliable this whole process makes no sense. Negation and affirmation assume the law of non-contradiction, a fundamental rule of logic. In fact without logic human language and discourse would break down and be impossible. Words can have meaning because they refer to something and not to something else and they do so consistently. If a term can mean one thing one day and the opposite the next with no basis or predictability one would never understand anything.

The writer also suggests that reason and logic are secular. In one sense he is correct; the word secular comes from the latin word which means temporal or of this world and it is true that logic is a process utilised in this world and for purposes in this world. This is not limited to reason and logic, in this sense of use theology is also secular at least when it is telling us about things of this world and how to live in this world.

However, I don’t think that the writer intends this; he is using secular in the modern sense of the word where it means, godless or “practical atheism,” a view which either affirms the non-existence of God or acts for practical purposes as if God does not exist. In this sense, I think he is clearly mistaken; as I noted above, logic simply gets one from a premise to a conclusion there is nothing in logic that entails an assumption that God does not exist. To claim that logic and reason are secular is like claiming that eyesight is secular or that memory is secular as these like and logic and reason are simply methods that human beings naturally use to gain information and understanding about reality. I think that God is part of reality. Just as we use our eyes to read scripture or we use our ears to hear a sermon and we use our memory to recall these things we can use logic and reason to infer conclusions from them.

The medievals called this process faith seeking understanding. One starts with what one knows by faith and reasons from it to gain a comprehensive, coherent and accurate understanding of reality and answers to the fundamental and philosophical existential questions that we face. It is this project that the evangelical church needs to reclaim.

If someone says that some aspect of Christianity is illogical they have merely stated it. To prove that it is illogical then they would need to provide us with a proposition or propositions that:

a) are essential to Christianity;

b) can be demonstrated to entail a logical contradiction by a valid argument form; and,

c) utilise premises that Christians are rationally required to accept.

In the literature some people claim to have done this but such claims are highly controversial and I have yet to come across one that has not been refuted. In light of this, it frustrates me many in the Church uncritically accept this claim and retreat without a single fight and then hide in a false, anti-intellectual pietism.

Larry Crabb– he’s written many books that can help people to get on with the business of love of God, Community as believers, and insight into Y we do some of the things we do–as the Holy Spirit works and grants liberty. He’s a strong advocate of the Bible in the role of counseling. Encouragement and Marriage Builder (which by the way is good for all friendships) are great.

3. J. Edwards– have read many, many theological books/theologians and have to say Edwards not only preached under and by the Power of God he gave clarity with Power to God’s word logically and effectively.

4. C.S. Lewis quotes and I’ve only read several of his books.

Funny, none of these men came from the same "denomination" but proved to be men who loved Jesus the Christ/The Lord their God. Larry is still proving that to this day.

So- "What’s He doing?" He’s reminding me of things others have written, said, of His Word like a Chisel and continually gives me a song/new song in my heart. He "Stands with me" when storm clouds gather and works all things together for the good. Thanks to these authors God has thus brought me thus far and "is faithful to complete the work He has begun in me"/He has been–oh so.

Defining Christian Faith For A Non-christian World

Christian faith has been the cornerstone for many believers’ lives for more than 2,000 years. In the days of the Roman Empire, and even later in the lives of Joan of Arc and John Hus, people have been willing to die for what they believe. Through all of the religion’s ups and downs, it has endured, not because of mighty armies or secular rule, but because of the belief that this world is not the final reward. However, Christians believe they can make the earth a better place by living lives with their eternal reward in mind. Defining faith is a tad more complicated than simple belief.

Belief is knowing something to be true. The word of God admits that even demons are capable of this. God’s people, as Christians strive to be known, requires a deeper commitment. Unlike belief, faith goes one step further and instills hope in the person who has it. Hope for a better life, a world of possibilities, an end to suffering, a discovery of world peace, a chance to see those loved ones who’ve gone before us, and a chance to escape the evils of this world. Quite simply, without faith, there is no hope.

But in order for Christian faith to be functional, it must go beyond even hope. It must become trust. Trust that God will do what He says, that He will work through you to fulfill His purpose, that He will enact a positive and lasting change for those who put their faith in Him and are called according to His ways. Hope is passive; trust is active. With trust, you can control the attitudes and the temptations that too often plague your life. You can overcome the walls of adversity that stand in your way every day. You can truly be called a child of God, because like a good father, He is always there watching over you, and you have the ability to either place things in His hands or struggle desperately against the tides.

Belief, hope, and trust, are all necessary components to have Christian faith, and they show themselves through the relationship you have with Jesus Christ. Many non-believers will admit that Christ was a great man. 2,000 years after his crucifixion, he remains the most influential character in world history. How could he not have been great? But not as many believe that Christ died for the world and rose from the grave three days later to abolish the hold sin had over the world. It takes that belief, that hope, and that trust, to walk in the Christian faith. Essentially, all you have to “do” is let go, and let God’s grace do the rest.
